Technology:Plasma-welded titanium clubface plate helps enlarge the sweet spot on the face, allowing for a better transfer of energy on off-centre strikes. I couldn t help but be drawn to the black headed driver standing menacingly in the corner of the Snake Eyes stand at last October s Golf Europe trade show in Munich.
It was almost pleading to be picked up and waggled like some secret weapon the manufacturers were somewhat reticent to expose to the daylight.
When I finally was able to get my hands on one to try recently, it reminded me of the kind of golf club the Dark Knight might use on his days off were he not so distracted in ridding the world of The Joker in the latest blockbuster movie.
It has a
PURE-d and appropriately dark blue and black Aldila NV shaft, interchangeable weights to deliver a combination of different ball flights and a rubberised black, blue and silver headcover that all add to the brooding mystery of the club.
Sadly my test model didn t come with a device to change the weights around in the head to give a left, right, higher or lower ball flight. It was like a bat-mobile without a spark plug.
However, the standard setting proved sufficient to tell me that it delivers a powerful trajectory - not necessarily the longest driver in the world but it certainly packs a punch.
The large sweet spot was very forgiving and you could see from the impact of the ball on the black plasma welded face plate what adjustments needed to be made in swing and stance to get the most from it.
I d like to have gained more consistent height from the 12.5 degree built-in loft but I probably needed the missing tool to help deliver my best trajectory.
